Frequently asked

Your questions, answered.

The Pendulum Project has been ongoing, beginning in 2019, and continuing into the 2024-2025 school year and beyond. In order to work through the design process, we have needed access to materials outside of what the school provides. To fund the purchase of these materials and the continuation of the program, we host presentations for local companies to receive grants and sponsors. Another resource that helps our program is direct donations, which we are able to receive through the donation link on our website.

Obstacles to overcome

Throughout the course of several years, the Physics C classes have had to work through obstacles for the creation of a fully functional pendulum.

Funding

Firstly, there is the issue of funding the pendulum that must be addressed before any construction plans can be made.

The Physics C class' marketing team is constantly overseeing management of grants and donations.

This project will be expensive and will not be possible without reaching outside companies and individuals residing in Avon Lake and the surrounding areas.

Location

The Physics C class is also working on finding the best place to manufacture this pendulum in order to ensure that all students, teachers, and visiting schools have access.

Engineering Expertise

Of course, none of the students in the AP Physics C class have degrees in engineering… Yet! Therefore, we work to invite engineers for guidance throughout our project. These engineers have access to materials that can streamline our research. Getting their perspectives is invaluable to our process; however, we do not receive constant assistance as independence is crucial.

Coding is another section of the research and design process that engineers will assist. The coding team's main goals are to develop a code that allows the pendulum to maintain amplitude and precession and swing forever when the pendulum is taken to a larger scale. This coding is necessary to control a powerful magnet that keeps the pendulum swinging.

Bright thinkers from our class are also working on building and perfecting small-scale versions of this larger project before moving on to the final masterpiece.

Help us keep it swinging.

Sponsors, engineers, and donors make this project possible. We'd love to hear from you.
