01The flagship crew

The 22-Foot Pendulum Team

Say hello to the team keeping our biggest and boldest system swinging. The 22-Foot Pendulum team focuses on maintaining and improving the school's largest pendulum system — right now they're replacing critical structural components, strengthening the support framework, and bringing order to the wiring. Looking ahead, they're redesigning key mechanical components, reducing vibration-related issues, and sharpening the pendulum's ability to demonstrate accurate precession behavior.

The 12-Foot Pendulum Team

Meet the innovators who test it first. The 12-Foot Pendulum team serves as the project's primary testing and development platform, experimenting with laser tracking systems, ultrasonic sensors, and data collection methods while keeping the existing pendulum infrastructure in top shape. Their long-term mission: generate the insights and technologies that scale up to the 22-foot pendulum — boosting performance, reliability, and our understanding of pendulum behavior.

03The brains of the operation

The Electronics & Coding Team

Introducing the team that powers it all. Electronics & Coding develops the technology behind the project's data collection and automation — building laser-based tracking systems, programming domino-control software, and designing custom electronic hardware. Long term, they're delivering accurate motion analysis for both pendulum systems and a fully automated domino mechanism ready to integrate into the larger project.

The 3D Printing, CAD & Dominoes Team

Here come the designers who make precession visible. Using 3D modeling, printing, and automated reset mechanisms, the 3D Printing, CAD & Dominoes team is developing a domino-based display that accurately tracks and showcases pendulum movement. Their goal is a scalable, fully automated system that can be implemented on both the 12-foot and 22-foot pendulums.

The Table-Top Pendulum Team

Meet the team bringing physics to your fingertips. The Table-Top Pendulum team is transforming a small-scale pendulum into a permanent interactive physics exhibit — troubleshooting performance, improving reliability, and developing an engaging display that showcases precession. In partnership with the Domino Team, they're creating a visually compelling educational exhibit that brings the big ideas of our larger pendulums to a wider audience.
